This was confirmed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah who tweeted that as a result of 84 dots in Qualifier 1, 42,000 saplings will be planted.
A nice initiative it has to be said as the bowlers will look not to give runs not just for their side but the environment as well.

IPL 2023: For every dot ball bowled throughout the whole playoffs, the BCCI has committed to plant 500 trees to demonstrate its support for the "Go Green" movement.

NEW DELHI: During the current IPL, BCCI has launched a commendable "Go Green" campaign. For every dot ball bowled throughout the whole playoffs, the governing body will plant 500 trees as part of an effort to contribute to environmental preservation. The playoff match between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings has started. This Tuesday, March 23, 2023, is Qualifier 1 day, and both teams are competing.
It is to note that, a bowled delivery known as a "Dot Ball" had no runs added to its total. It is known as a "dot ball" because, in the scorebook, a batsman's inability to score runs is indicated by a single dot, thus the name.
Meanwhile, before the game, the BCCI made no formal notification about the plan. However, a tree emoji rather than a dot ball was displayed in the scorecard by the league's official broadcasters. Later, the broadcasters began referring to it as "Green Dot Balls."
