CSK Vs RCB, IPL 2024, Highlights: Newly appointed Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad-led squad opened the IPL 2024 tournament on a winning note, as they defeated Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets in the IPL 2024 opener at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.

CSK's Mustafizur Rahman was announced ‘Player of the Match’ for picking up 4 wickets against RCB in the TATA IPL 2024 opener match. 

Chasing 174 runs against RCB in the IPL 2024 opener, and CSK's Ruturaj Gaikwad  (15) and Rachin Ravindra (37) gave a good start. After their dismissal, Ajinkya Rahane (27) and Daryl Mitchell (22) too played really well. But, the icing on the cake was the performances of Shivam Dube (*34) and Ravindra Jadeja (*25) which led the defending champions to beat RCB by 6 wickets. 

For RCB, Cameron Green picked two wickets, while Yash Dayal and Karn Sharma picked up one wicket each. 

Earlier in the day, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to bat first at in the IPL 2024 opener.

After winning the toss, RCB lost quick 5 wickets, as CSK's Mustafizur Rahman picked up 4 wickets in the IPL 2024 opener at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday. RCB managed to score 173/6 in 20 overs. 

For RCB, Faf du Plessis (35) and Virat Kohli (21) gave a good start, but then RCB lost Cameron Green (18), Glenn Maxwell (0), Rajat Patidar (0) and Cameron Green (18). However, Anuj Rawat (48) and Dinesh Kartik (38*) built a good partnership, leading RCB to score of 173/6 in 20 overs. 

For CSK, Mustafizur Rahman picked 4 wickets and Deepak Chahar took one. Now CSK need 174 runs to win the match. 

During the match, Virat Kohli completed 12,000 T20 runs and Mustafizur Rahman picked 50th wicket in his IPL career. 

The CSK and RCB have played 31 matches so far with each other, where CSK won 20 and RCB won 10. One match ended with no result. Apart from this, CSK won 46 IPL matches played at MA Chidambaram and lost 18 matches.

Earlier on Thursday, Gaikwad, who made his debut with CSK in 2020, was announced as the new CSK skipper by the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who stepped down from the post.

Under his leadership, Chennai Super Kings won the IPL trophy 5 times -- 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023.

Chasing has been difficult at Chepauk, as the pitch tends to slow down during the second half. So batting first would be a good decision at the MA Chidambaram stadium.
