India vs South Africa: Jadeja, Kohli star as India win by 243 runs against South Africa

India vs South Africa:  Virat Kohli's 101 not out was the centrepiece of India's 326-5 before they skittled out South Africa -- the second-placed side in the 10-team event -- for just 83, with Ravindra Jadeja taking 5-33. It was South Africa's lowest total made at any World Cup

From the 'City of Joy' to spreading joy throughout the nation, well done #TeamIndia!

Mach Highlight : Dominating India thump South Africa by 243 runs in Kolkata, extend winning streak to eight matches in ODI World Cup. This was India's eighth win in as many matches maintaining their unbeaten streak in the tournament so far. Ravindra Jadeja's five-wicket haul, a rampant India ran riot at the Eden Gardens, decimating South Africa by a whopping 243 runs in the battle of one and two in the points table .

South Africa team got off to a poor start as Mohammed Siraj dismissed in form Quinton de Kock for 5 with Proteas losing their first wicket for 6.

Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen played cautiously but the required run-rate kept climbing.

Ravindra Jadeja was introduced into the attack in the ninth over and the left-arm spinner dismissed skipper Bavuma for 11 to leave South Africa at 22/2 in 8.3 overs.

In the next over Mohammed Shami was introduced into the attack and the in form pader sent Aiden Markram packing for 9 caught behind by KL Rahul to put Proteas in a spot of bother at 35/3.

All-rounder Jadeja struck again getting the wicket of Heinrich Klaasen leg before wicket for 1 to leave South Africa tottering at 40/4.

In the next over Shami got his second scalp dismissing Rassie van der Dussen leg before wicket for 13 as Proteas lost half of their side for 40.

David Miller and Marco Jansen helped South Africa scratch their way to 50-run mark in 15 overs.

Jadeja cleaned up Miller as South Africa lost their sixth wicket for 59.

The star Indian all-rounder looked unstoppable cleaning his Keshav Maharaj for 7 to put South Africa in further trouble at 67/7.

Kuldeep Yadav also joined the party dismissing Marco Jansen caught by Jadeja with Proteas further down the drain at 79/8.

In the next over Jadeja got his fifth scalp dismissing Kagiso Rabada caught behind for 6.

Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Lungi Ngidi for duck as the South African team was bundled out for 83 and India registered yet another thumping 243-run win.

Virat Kohli hit a record-equalling 49th ODI century and shared a 134-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer as India enthralled the Eden crowd, piling up 326 for five against South Africa in their World Cup match

Virat Kohli equalled Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 one-day international hundreds when he reached three figures in a World Cup match against South Africa on Sunday.

Kohli, on his 35th birthday, got to the landmark in 119 balls, including 10 fours, at Kolkata's Eden Gardens.

Continuing with his high-risk game, Rohit Sharma gave India a flourishing start but South Africa pegged the hosts back by removing the captain and his opening partner Shubhman Gill in their World Cup match, here on Sunday.

Rohit hit a 24-ball 40 and shared a 62-run opening partnership with Shubman Gill (23) but the Proteas left them fighting at 105 for two after 15 overs.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first at the historic Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata. No change for India while the Proteas make one change in their playing XI. Bavuma has opted to play an extra spinner in the side, hinting that the surface at Eden Gardens could be a dry one. The IND-SA clash is likely to be an enthralling one with the two teams sitting right at the top of ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table.

Former India captain Virat Kohli has the chance of a lifetime to score his 49th ODI century on his birthday. If Kohli achieves this milestone, he will join his idol Sachin Tendulkar as the players with the most centuries in the 50-over format.

In a series of firsts, India are the only team to have officially qualified for the knockout stages of ICC World Cup 2023. The Men in Blue are also the only side to have remained unbeaten in all their 7 matches so far.

India, who have missed the services of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya in recent matches, finally received the bad news that the Indian vice-captain will not be part of the 2023 World Cup campaign due to the ankle injury he suffered in the Bangladesh game.

Rohit's side have had a dream World Cup run so far, with both India's bowlers and batsmen featuring in the top 5 charts. While Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have shepherded the Indian batting, the trio of Shami, Siraj and Bumrah have made the white ball move as they please.

South Africa, on the other hand, have made a statement with their performances at this World Cup. Apart from a one-off defeat to the Netherlands, the Proteas have been in exceptional form with bat and ball. The opening pair of Quinton de Kock and skipper Temba Bavuma have helped the Africans lay a solid foundation that lower-order batsmen like Klaasen and Miller have been able to exploit. India named an unchanged side from their thumping win over Sri Lanka, with all-rounder Hardik Pandya ruled out of the rest of the tournament due to an ankle injury.

India vs South Africa Live Score Updates: We are not getting ahead of ourselves", says Rohit Sharma

India vs South Africa Live Score Updates: "If we look at how we played in the last three games, we played better in terms of adapting to the situation. We were put under pressure against England. In the last game (against Sri Lanka) as well, we lost a wicket in the first over but got to a good score, and seamers came to the party," said Rohit in the post-match presentation.

"Today was not an easy pitch, you needed someone like Kohli, who batted to the situation. Not to forget Shreyas. It is important to let guys have freedom in the middle and what the team expects from them. You know it cannot always be done, but when it does it looks good and that is what happened with Shami. Same with Iyer, was not getting the runs but he has shown in the last two games the kind of class he has," he continued.

India vs South Africa Live Score Updates: We needed Virat Kohli to go out and play the situation, says Rohit Sharma

India vs South Africa Live Score Updates:  Kohli's 49th ODI hundred paved the way for India's 326 for five on a slightly diffident Eden Gardens pitch, which proved way over the par in the end.

"If you look at how we have played in the last three games, we have adapted better. Today, we needed Kohli to go out there and play to the situation. We then knew we had to keep it in the right areas (with the ball) and let the pitch do the rest," said Rohit Sharma  during the post-match presentation.
